Landscape with safety in mind. Big thick bushes make easy hiding places for bad guys waiting to attack. Select shrubbery that protects your home as well as beautifies it. Holly shrubs are an excellent and useful choice.

Put away all house tools lying around the outside of your home. Ladders, gardening tools, or anything that can be stacked (think second floor windows) give your burglar the psychological and physical ammunition to attempt a break in.

Place motion detectors high up on your home. This makes it difficult for bad guys to remove the light bulbs from the detectors. Burglars prefer to work where they can’t be seen.

Secure the inside door leading from the house to your garage. If a burglar breaks into your garage, and the door leading to your home is not locked, you have just invited him in. Lock it every time you leave and arrive at home.

Monitor what you say over the phone. Burglars sometimes pose as survey conductors or telemarketers so they can uncover the contents of your home when you answer their questions. Keep your personal information personal.
